Mahle engineers therefore utilize state-of-the-art simulation tools in the initial phase to guarantee the required thermodynamic and thermo-mechanical characteristics of components over the complete integrated development process. Thermo-mechanical calculations are conducted to determine the durability of the turbine housing. After the design and calculation phase, the exhaust-gas turbocharger is subjected to an extensive series of tests on hot-gas test benches and engine test benches. The criteria here include thermodynamic maps, shaft displacement curves, and product life cycle.
