Use of this solenoid will result in:

* Increased Main Line Pressure

* Increased Clutch Holding Pressure

* Firm, crisp shifts

This solenoid controls mainline pressure for ALL clutches in the transmission and is the first step in building performance in our 5R110 transmissions!

Couple this solenoid with the Direct Solenoid for a better 3-5 shifting experience and longer transmission life!  It is depicted in the image below as 'EPC/PC-A'.

Notes:

1.  This is not compatible with the TransGo Kit.

2.  There is a $65 refundable core charge on this solenoid that is issued upon receipt of your returned EPC solenoid core.   ** Cores must be returned within 60 Days to receive credit

3.  Installation of this solenoid will require the dropping of the valve body, which while a simple task, means disturbing the valve body gasket and through transmission o-ring.  We recommend replacing both of these at the time of the installation.

OTHER PARTS TO CONSIDER:

  1. Direct Solenoid - If you haven't already upgraded your direct solenoid as well, you should do this at the same time to fully combat the dreaded 3-5 shift flare.
  2. Transmission Dummy Plug - Ford installed plastic pressure switches in the transmission which were never actually used.  Prevent future issues by replacing these with a billet aluminum plug.  For 2003 transmissions, you will need 5 dummy plugs. For 2004 transmissions, you will need 1-5 dummy plugs.  For 2005 and later transmissions, you will need one dummy plug.
  3. Valve Body Gasket & Through Transmission Electrical Connector O-Ring - While folks often can reuse these parts, why risk it.
  4. Fluid - Have us add a case of Motorcraft fluid to your order so you have everything needed when you button up the transmission.
  5. 6.4 Pan & Filter - While you have the pan down, consider migrating to the 6.4 pan and filter for far superior filtration.
  6. Bumper Filter & O-Ring - While you're putting in new fluid and better filtration, it's a great time to change this often overlooked filter as well.

Instead of purchasing these items individually, consider picking up our 5R110 Full Upgrade Kit.

Following the installation of this solenoid, we recommend immediately performing a transmission relearn process as follows:

1. Install diagnostic equipment and monitor transmission fluid temperature (TFT).
2. Warm the transmission fluid to 54°C (130°F) as indicated by the TFT reading.
3. Perform five engagements from Park to Reverse.
Each engagement must be five seconds apart.
4. Perform five engagements from Drive to Reverse.
Each engagement must be five seconds apart.
5. Perform five engagements from Reverse to Drive.
Each engagement must be five seconds apart.
6. Perform five engagements from Neutral to Drive.
Each engagement must be five seconds apart.

AND A FEW MORE PARTS TO CONSIDER:

  1. Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor - You're already going to be in the transmission so it's a great time to preventatively replace this sensor to prevent issues down the road.
  2. Control Valve Body Screen - Again, just a good preventative measure to take while you're there.
  3. DieselSite External Transmission Filter - If your torque converter ever fails, protect your transmission with this filter which keeps pieces of the torque converter from damaging the transmission.
